We made ice-cream! (in under 5 minutes)

Its the 1st day of the school holidays and I was looking for something different to do with with Miss 8. After a bit of internet searching I found a quick an easy recipe for ice-cream!

It might require a bit of forward planning if your not the sort of person who keeps lots of ice in the freezer (I used 4 trays worth of ice but it could have done with a bit more).

Here is what you'll need if you want to try this yourself:

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or half & half
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 tablespoons rock salt
  • 1 medium size Glad zip lock bag (22cm x 25cm) or similar
  • 1 sandwich size zip lock bag or
  • Ice cubes (quite few enough to half fill the medium bag)
I used a large bag in this pic but it was a bit too big so i'm suggesting a medium sized bag

This is how we made it:

1) Half fill the medium sized bag with ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.

2)Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.

3) Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.

4)Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.

5) This was very cold to hold so we ended up wrapping the bag in a tea towel. Its also a bit drippy so i recommend doing this outside or over the sink.

6) Wipe off the top of the small bag (really well or it will taste salty yuck)

7) Open the bag and ENJOY! it was a hit with Miss 8 who ate it all before i could even get the topping out!!!!

This will make 1 scoop of ice-cream, its a bit softer than usual but it tastes yummy! Every one can make their own scoop of ice cream!!!
